North Devon

ilfracombe north devon

The seaside town of Ilfracombe is located on the North Devon Coast. It’s harbour, being surrounded by pretty pastel coloured shops and restaurants, is one of the most picturesque in Devon and indeed the South West. The landmark of Hillsborough Hill dominates the harbour on one side, and is the site of an Iron Age fortified settlement. Love or hate it, Verity, the 66 foot bronze sculpture, which has been loaned to North Devon Council by its creator Damien Hirst, is a pregnant woman standing on a base of legal books depicting truth and justice, the 13th century parish church, Trinity, and the St Nicholas’s Chapel (a lighthouse) which sits on Lantern Hill on the opposite side are all points of interest not to be missed. Why not take a seat in one of Ilfracombe’s beautiful parks or gardens, visit the Aquarium, Ilfracombe Museum or the famous bathing pools at Tunnels Beaches? North Devon is home to some fantastic beaches including Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands that must not be missed.

Traversing throughout North Devon is the Tarka Trail. A 180mile figure-eight loop starting in Barnstaple and heading north to the coastal town of Lynton and south as far as Okehampton.
